Logan Aluminum is a Delaware registered corporation.  We are a joint venture with 2 shareholders; Novelis Corporation and Tri-Arrows Aluminum Corporation.  Physically located near Russellville, Kentucky, Logan Aluminum is a leading manufacturer of flat rolled aluminum sheet, primarily for use in the beverage can market.  At Logan Aluminum, we use the latest technology, but it is the commitment of ‘every individual, every team, every day’ to improve and advance in concert with our unique team-based work system that has propelled us to a leadership position in the industry.

Peer Performance Appraisal System

Logan operates with a peer based appraisal process.  The purpose and intent of this system is:

To assure that:

  • The highest level of quality input is available to the team member being appraised
  • A common undetstanding of expectations is achieved and exercised
  • Continual improvement becomes the focus of the team through the peer feedback loop
  • Teams take ownership of performance issues and respond appropriately

Team Meetings

Each operating team holds a 30 min meeting at the beginning or end of each shift.  The team meeting is a vehicle for the team leaders and team members:

  • Communicate business information
  • Resolve day to day issues
  • Actively involve all team members in the business

STAR Point System

The STAR concept is an integral component of the Logan work system.  The basic premise of the concept is that information generated by a team or their support group(s) is essential to each team’s understanding of, commitment to, and participation in the Logan work system.

A STAR concept, with points that represent various areas of responsibility (Safety, Quality, Personnel, Production, and Administration) is the concepted framework that allows team to coordinate their activities with those of other teams and parts of the business.

Logan Employee Development System (LED)

Logan operates a corporate university system that is designed to support team members’ continued growth and development, allowing them to meet plant performance requirements.  All team members have prescribed programs for development that includes training in the areas of Safety, Technical, and Behavioral skills.

Community Involvement

Logan Aluminum promotes recycling efforts as in Earth Day celebrations where employees are encouraged to bring in recyclable items from home.

Logan Aluminum has partnered with United Way of Southern Kentucky since 1990 and has been a corporate pacesetter in recent years. Our lifetime giving totals over $2.3 million.

Team members also volunteer with organizations such as American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life campaign, Junior Achievement, Western Kentucky University, Logan County Chamber of Commerce, and local Parks & Recreation groups, Additionally, Logan offers Team Member & family activities throughout the year. They include: on-site blood drives, Fallen Heroes Ride, Holiday Party, Annual Golf scramble, Lunker Tournament, community Christmas food drives, company picnic and Easter Egg Hunt, just to name a few.

Our Environmental Initiative

 We place a strong emphasis on our environmental stewardship.

• Our man-made wetlands consist of a 40 acre ecosystem, which acts a “natural” filtration of our process waste water, reducing our dependence on energy and treatment chemicals before discharge.

• Several water re-use projects have been implemented through continuous improvement initiatives that have led to a 40 % reduction of raw water necessary to operate the facility.

• Our effort in environmental sustainability includes investments in updating air pollution control equipment. Recycling many types of non-product outputs. Including, wooden pallets, cardboard, electronics, white paper, etc.

• Additionally, we have an established Energy Reduction Task Force that is charged with minimizing total plant energy usage through investment of new technology and continuous improvement activities.
